William Yu

Chief Technology Officer

What are you responsible for in MDI?

I provide the direction for which technologies we are going to study, select, and implement as a company. On an advisory level, I also do this for our customers.

How does your responsibility impact customers?

Designing, building, and delivering the right technology products and services help our customers in their digital transformation journeys, which ultimately leads to providing their own customers better experiences and to realizing growth in their own companies.

How to be you?

Live life learning.

What is a typical work day for you?

Learning, teaching, learning, and more learning and teaching. Okay, the occasional coding.

Do you have a morning/evening routine to set yourself up for a productive day?

I have a system that gives me the latest news about key terms, technology, companies, and people that I pay attention to. I read through the hits every morning.  I did say learning, right?

What do you do on weekends or on vacation?

I teach and advise research students part-time. I spend a lot of time with my family: helping my kids with school work, reading with them, taking walks in the park. I like traveling and seeing the world one city at a time.

What is your favorite thing about working in MDI?

I get to work on technology, which I like very much. I get to encourage customers and companies to look into new things that will make things run better or faster and make their lives easier.

What do you want to achieve at work? In life?

I want to build a homegrown Philippine technology powerhouse that we will all be proud of. In life, I want to leave the world a little better for the next generation.

Best piece of advice you have ever given or received?

As a technology services provider, our work can be a bit tough or high-pressure. But I always say, if things were easy, then we’re not needed here.
